Yusuke Tazawa, a Yokohama-based woodworker in his early fifties, finds inspiration in the forests of Seya ward, where he relocated his workshop. Tazawa’s work is deeply influenced by nature, reflecting his background in environmental consulting and a love for crafting that dates back to his childhood. After studying forestry and working in environmental surveys, he transitioned to woodworking, training in the renowned Hida Takayama region. Tazawa established the Think Forest workshop in 2006, creating items like AGOBAY serving trays from woods such as 'yamazakura' (Japanese mountain cherry). His philosophy emphasizes the importance of handcrafting to honor the natural origins of his materials, aiming to create beautiful, practical pieces that connect people with nature.
